Chicken

oil on board, 5×7

this is the first toy my daughter Sophia learned conceptualization skills with.

she was about 14 months old and the chicken goes with a set of little barnyard animals with different shaped bases; i.e. chicken-round base, sheep-triangle, cow-octangle, pig-square, etc. the bases fit into holes in the little plastic barn which corresponded to the shape and colors of the animal figures. you get the idea.

she loved this toy and we would play with it together over and over. she would get REALLY frustrated too, if they did not fit right.

finally she got it, and the chicken was the first one she learned how to fit.

it was amazing to see her make the connection between thought and action, and a lesson for me too.
