The construction of a head or body begins with basic block build-up, then establishment a combination of enclosed shapes within those blocks as planes of light and planes of shadow. Then I find the edge of the shapes but I don’t feel the necessity to refine or even stay within these edges. I just need to know where they are.
Nothing more. I don’t try to draw an eye or a nose.
I have not been to a life drawing session in over 1 year. Thats a long time for me. I heard that Erin was modeling at Vinnie’s workshop at FSCJ so I packed up the kit and when I was done remembered why I do this. Because it’s just a fulfilling and productive activity. The people there are dedicated and great, the model Erin is beautiful and a real pro. These are my people. It does not matter that I can’t make a living at this, it brings me joy. I think I’ll go again next week.
All on 18×24, conte crayon on newsprint. From a CoRK session.
